Operating System
Personal computer can be considered as the backbone of a large part of modern day economy. It can be viewed as combination of hardware and software parts. It has many resources such as memory, processing speed, external hardware such as CD players, gaming equipment etc which are limited. But there are many applications and tasks to be carried out. Operating System is the major component of software in any computer which performs the job of allocating various scarce resources to different application softwares so that desired output is achieved in optimal time. Application softwares include internet browsers, media players, file browsers, calculators, text editors, drawing tools etc. These days most of the OS vendors are providing many of the common application softwares along with OS. Windows internet explorer, windows media player, windows paint, notepad, windows image viewer which are provided by Microsoft along with Windows Operating System are application softwares. These softwares should not be confused with the Operating System. Some of the Operating systems in the market are Microsoft Windows, MAC OS X, UNIX, LINUX, MS-DOS etc. Operating systems are found on any electronic device that has more than one program to run simultaneously.
